Staff writer | 22 Abril del 2010

Import and export traffic between São Paulo and the Port of Hamburg accounts for around 5.6 million tons, making São Paulo the third on the list of Hamburg´s top trading partners. Every week, up to eight container-laden ships link the Port of Hamburg with ports in Brazil.

General cargo handling accounts for around 2.1 million tons and last year saw the handling of around TEU 167,000 of container transport between the two cities, with Brazil exporting primarily iron ore, oilseeds, meat and raw coffee. The main shipments from Hamburg were fertilizer, machinery, plant equipment, vehicles and chemical products.

At the Intermodal South America trade fair hosted by São Paulo from 6 - 8 April 2010, Port of Hamburg Marketing (HHM) was also represented with a joint booth. Around 45,000 visitors emphasized the significance and scope of the trade fair, which hosted around 490 exhibitors.

Companies represented in the Port of Hamburg booth were BUSS Group GmbH & Co. KG, Polzug Intermodal GmbH, Saco Shipping GmbH, TCI International Logistics GmbH, TCO TRANSCARGO GmbH and TFG Transfracht International.  All considered the fair to be extremely successful and are thinking of repeating the experience next year.
